Raquel, founder of the Fifty Shades Greener blog, talks about her awareness of the wastage created by the hospitality industry and her efforts to counter them. Her passion and love for tourism is countered by her utter distaste for the pollution caused by the booming industry. She got in touch with Rasika Perera, the founder of Ravana Garden sustainable Boutique Hotel, to get his views on the subject.

Rasika concurred that the hospitality industry is one of the most polluting, with most industry leaders being unaware or least bothered by the concerns shared by these two sustainability-conscious individuals. Rasika built Ravana Garden in hopes of inspiring through example that a luxury hotel can be both successful and sustainable.

By putting sustainability first with his boutique hotel, Rasika’s success in the industry sets a benchmark for others in the industry to follow suit and help preserve local culture and nature, no matter where in the world they are.
